Elections are about choices. In the words of former President Barack Obama, "in November, we will elect leaders up and down the ballot who will fight for the hopeful, forward-looking America we all believe in."
Anne Arundel County has choices. Choose a jurist with a proven track record. I present my candidacy as judge on the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County, duly qualified with 35 years of legal experience and fully vetted. I am the only candidate on this ballot with 10 years of judicial experience, an accomplished author, award winning newsletter editor, and a recent recipient of the 2024 Lawyers of Distinction Award. I am also the recipient of the 2022 Dr. Martin Luther King Drum Major for Justice Award and a proud recipient of the Sojourner Truth Award from Anne Arundel County in 2022.
I have served on the Anne Arundel County Transportation Commission (2018 to present). I am the only candidate who created and chairs a Task Force to serve the Transportation Needs of the Underserved Population.
I am a lifetime member of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ) where I served 2011-2013 as District 4 Director. I am also a lifetime member of the National Bar Association, and currently serve on the American Bar Association's Senior Lawyers Division on their publication committee.
I began serving as an Administrative Law Judge with the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings in August 2005. Prior to becoming a judge, I was fully vetted by the DC Commision on Selection and Tenure. After completing my two year probationary period, the late Chief Administrative Law Judge Tyrone Butler highly recommended me to serve a ten year term as administrative law judge. I received top performance evaluations under his distinguished leadership.
I currently serve as immediate past president of the Public Sector Human Resources Association (PSHRA) Patuxent River Basin Chapter.
Previously served in 2020-2021 as president of the International Public Management Association (IPMA) Patuxent River Basin Chapter.
In 2021, the chapter received the 2021 Chapter Award of Excellence.

While serving on the committee with Judge Claudia Barber, I have had the pleasure of observing her professional, equitable and logical approach to addressing inequities within the judicial system, community injustice and other areas that have impacted families. Judge Barber has exhibited integrity and professionalism when engaging with other professionals on matters related to addressing Police misconduct, family injustice, and other areas of concern that impact individuals and groups of community members. Last but not least, Judge Barber has demonstrated a passion to help strengthen organizations, groups and individuals, and never hesitating to share her knowledge, time and values that have shown to be inspirational to all that she has come in contact with. This speaks volumes to Judge Barber's natural ability to serve the community, while teaching each person that may come before her at the same time.
Claudia Barber is an outstanding jurist with extensive legal and judicial experience, excellent writing and speaking skills and a history of civil and human rights efforts. She would be an invaluable asset to the Maryland judicial system.
I find Ms. Barber, to be a person of great integrity and strength. That’s in both the legal arena and in the community and is reflective of her ten years as an administrative law judge, plus twenty years as faculty at area universities, such as Bowie, John Hopkins, and UMUC.
An astute and knowledgeable professional. Rev M. Morris
Judge Claudia Barber has outstanding legal and analytical skills. I can state with confidence that Judge Barber was an excellent judge and will continue to be an outstanding judge in the future. Anne Arundel County is lucky to have her!

Why are you running?
I am running to keep fairness and impartiality in the judicial system. We need jurists who are mindful of sentencing disparity and how it impacts the community and families.
What will you bring to the bench that's distinctive from other candidates?
I already have over 10 years of judicial experience, which other candidates do not have. My background includes years of community service, organizing community job fairs and hosting community events such as book forums and back to school events.
I am an accomplished author. My book, "How to Survive Protracted Civil Litigation" began trending the entire month of July 2024 as a top seller on Amazon in the Litigation Procedures and Judicial Systems categories.
Tell us about your party? Circuit Court judicial candidates do not run on party ballots. When candidates file a certificate of candidacy or declaration of intent to run, the party is identified as "judicial" because they appear on all ballots.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the incredible volunteers who are generously contributing their time and effort to Judge Claudia Barber's campagin. We look forward to seeing you soon!
